Hyderabad: Dancing, whether classic, fusion or modern – is an art, but certainly not for everyone. And when it comes to career choices, even fewer people would. An exception is Disha Methi Khandelwal, who belongs to the “less” category.

After choosing a CA, she dropped out of college and began her full-time dance career. In addition, she uses dance to keep fit and not only trains others in dance moves, but also uses it as a fitness routine. So far she has trained more than 500 people and recently opened her own studio “The DMK” in Banjara Hills.

Although she started dancing at the age of 13, she made sure to complete her Masters in Applied Finance from St. Francis College for Women in Begumpet before deciding to pursue her dream. “It all started when I was tracking my CA. Even though I was doing well academically, my heart was always dancing. But my parents asked me to take the course. But after I finished my Masters, I decided to drop out of the CA course and focus on dancing, ”says Disha, who trains over 80 people a day.

“I started out as a freelancer and trained company employees and participants in Sangeet functions. Later I got calls from people to give them personal training. Since the pandemic was the biggest challenge for most of them, I started running online courses, which also made it possible for some interested people from other countries to try out my classes, ”says Disha.

Disha, who has completed over 2,500 fitness units to date, also pays attention to the nutrition of her customers. “It matters more what kind of food we eat; Not only training, but also everyday life helps people in the long run, ”says Disha, who mainly concentrates on“ married women who are busy with their families and outside of work and who don’t look after themselves ”. Make sure they have the right food and exercise so they can stay strong and better manage their home, ”she adds.

To keep her Zumba sessions engaging, Disha runs a “24 Day Commitment To Be Fitter” challenge and motivates her clients enough to stick with the exercise routine. “I make sure to come up with different concepts so that my customers’ day goes well. The songs I choose and the steps I practice are particularly important to me, ”says the certified dancer trainer who was trained at Sucheta Pal.

She also has plans to open studios in a few other locations for those who wish to join the
Classes but cannot travel to Banjara Hills.
