LANSING, Michigan (WILX) – Free fitness classes will be offered starting Wednesday at Michigan’s first AARP-sponsored outdoor fitness park at Lansing’s Rotary Park. Lansing Mayor Andy Schor announced that the courses will be held multiple times over several weeks to cater to the attendees.

The following are offered by fitness instructor Deborah Foster of the Lansing Parks and Recreation Department:

  • an introductory course
  • a one-hour circuit training
  • an eight week streak to get into a regular active routine

All AARP sponsored classes are 100% free and run by certified fitness professionals. The free courses start on September 15th and last through November.

“Lansing Parks and Recreation’s free classes at Lansing’s new FitLot are a great way to get active and spend time in Rotary Park along the Lansing River Trail,” said Mayor Schor. “This is an opportunity for residents of all ages and abilities to learn how to exercise safely and effectively.”

Participants should wear clothing and shoes that they can move and exercise comfortably in, taking into account the weather for the day and time. You should also bring water, a towel, and hand sanitizer.

Rotary Park’s AARP-sponsored outdoor fitness park was created by FitLot, a national not-for-profit organization committed to helping communities allocate the resources they need to plan, build, and program their own outdoor fitness parks Find.
