Houston nutritionist shares wholesome drink recipes to your at-home gatherings

HOUSTON – If you want to give your body a break from sugary sodas or alcohol while sipping refreshing drinks at your next home event, we have healthier alternatives for you.

Krystal Hammett, Certified Nutritionist with Alternative Wellness Solutions, shows healthy drinks that are both delicious and beneficial for you.

“These drinks offer great benefits including antioxidant support, immune support, antiviral properties, prebiotics to support GI health, and various macro and micronutrients as great alternatives to consuming alcohol,” said Hammett, who raved about ingredients like bone broth and liquid amino acids , Kimchi, and raw manuka honey and encourages everyone to include it in their drinks just like she did in the recipes below.

Bloody Mary bone broth

Ingredients:

• 1 cup of diced fire-roasted tomatoes

• ½ cup of tomato juice

• 1 cup of chicken bone broth

• 2 tablespoons of coconut aminos

• 2 tablespoons of kimchi juice

• 1 ½ teaspoon of horseradish

• 1 teaspoon of celery salt

• 1/3 teaspoon paprika

• 1 teaspoon of Sriracha

• 1 ½ teaspoon chili powder

Edge:

• 2-3 tablespoons of chili powder

• 1 tablespoon of paprika

• Lime juice

Directions:

Put all ingredients in a blender and blend on low until everything is well mixed. Then mix the chilli powder and paprika and place on a flat plate. Line the edge of the glass with a line wedge, completely coat the edge. Next, dip the jar in the spice mixture to evenly coat the rim.

Pour the Bloody Mary mixture into the glass. Serve garnished with a stick of fresh celery, pickles and / or olives on a cocktail pick.

Homemade healthy lemonade

Ingredients:

• 6 cups of filtered water, divided

• 1/3 cup of raw manuka honey

• 1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice (approx. 4-6 large lemons)

Directions:

Combine 1 cup of water with manuka honey and gently heat it on the stove until the honey has dissolved, then remove from the saucepan and let cool. Put this aside.

Pour the freshly squeezed lemon juice in the bottom of a jug, followed by our simple manuka honey syrup, then top up the rest of the jug with the remaining 5 cups of water. Stir to combine.

Strawberry lemonade

Directions:

To shred the strawberries, put fresh strawberries in a blender, then mash them until they’re evenly shredded, or use a muffler to grind them to a jam consistency.

Mix the strawberry mixture into 2 cups of homemade lemonade (see recipe above), add ice and stir.

Blueberry lemonade

Directions:

2 pints of blueberries mixed with a muddler (to make 1/2 cup of juice)

Add mashed blueberries to 2 cups of homemade lemonade (see recipe above), add ice and stir.
