Empowering parents and children to build a greener world by taking their first steps in recycling formula cans
HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach – May 10, 2021 – To encourage Hong Kong citizens to lead greener lives, Mead Johnson Nutrition Hong Kong (“Mead Johnson”), one of the brands under Reckitt Benckiser (“Reckitt”), has its city officially opened -wide formula can recycling program “We can protect the future” at the beginning of April. The program was launched in partnership with the 24-hour online shopping platform HKTVmall under the name Hong Kong Television Network Limited (“HKTVmall”) and the World Green Organization (“WGO”) and aims to raise awareness of the importance of recycling and raise awareness Parents should secure the future of their children by immediately taking measures to protect the environment and being role models for a green life.
According to a recent survey, only around 30% of parents surveyed would recycle the formula cans used in Hong Kong[1]. With collection points at 6 HKTVmall O2O stores across the city, the program gives consumers easy access to a reliable channel through which to recycle their used formula cans and turn them into useful raw materials to reduce waste and protect our environment.
The program accepts purified formula doses of all brands and rewards participating parents with HKTVmall e-coupons that can be used to purchase online[2]. To ensure the proper storage and transportation of all collected cans, all brand logos and brand names are deleted before a specialized delivery team moves the cans from the HKTVmall O2O stores to a local recycling facility. The cans are then destroyed and shipped to another facility for further processing. Molten metal is recycled into raw metal materials for various purposes, such as construction.
“Reckitt is driven by its purpose of always doing the right things. Mead Johnson, as one of Reckitt’s core brands, adheres to this mission as well, not only providing high quality nutritional products, but also working hand in hand with our consumers to protect the environment and enable the best start in life in more than a century, “said Pankaj Agarwal, General Manager of Reckitt in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Cross-Border. “By partnering with HKTVmall and WGO to provide a convenient and reliable recycling channel, we hope to enable parents and their children to start recycling habits early on, thereby creating a cleaner, healthier world.”
Ms. Jelly Zhou, Chief Executive Officer (Hong Kong) of Hong Kong Television Network Limited, added, “HKTVmall is committed to improving the quality of life for Hong Kong people through innovative technology. We also place great emphasis on social responsibility in promoting a culture of environmental protection and resource conservation.
