More than 34 million Americans (1 in 10) have diabetes, with 90 to 95% having type 2 diabetes specifically. This is the type of diabetes believed to be caused by poor eating habits and sedentary lifestyle over time. More worryingly, roughly one in three American adults has prediabetes, and 84% of them don’t even know they have diabetes.
Someone with prediabetes has higher than average blood sugar (sugar) levels, but they are not high enough to make it into the type 2 diabetes range. If you are diagnosed with prediabetes, it means the Cells in your body don’t respond properly to insulin, and as a result, your pancreas overcompensates by producing more insulin to get your cells to respond.
