NBA All-Star Chris Paul Invests in Koia with Joint Mission to Make Plant-Primarily based Vitamin Extra Accessible to Underserved Communities

Paul’s recent investment in Koia reaffirms his commitment to plant-based living with the HBCU vending machine program as the first step in the partnership

THE ANGEL, August 19, 2021 / PRNewswire / – NBA All-Star Chris Paul continues its plant-based mission with a financial investment in Koia, a leading provider of 100% plant-based nutritional shakes. This investment supports Paul’s goal of giving everyone better access to healthy food and promoting the benefits they personally experience from a plant-based lifestyle.

Chris Paul invests in Koia on a shared mission to make plant-based diets more accessible to underserved communities

Paul adds Koia to his portfolio of plant-based brands that are changing his life and the lives of others, including his investment in Beyond Meat. Since starting switching to a plant-based diet in 2019, Paul has seen significant improvements in his overall health, performance, and recovery both on and off the pitch.

Paul and Koia share a mission to make plant-based diets available to all, especially communities that do not have access to healthy, low-sugar foods. As a first step in accomplishing their mission, Paul and Koia will launch a Koia vending machine program on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) campuses, focusing on locations with which Paul has relationships. The first pilot program will take place this year with a broader roll-out in 2022.

In addition to the HBCU program, Paul is committed to purchasing 50,000 bottles of Koia Straw-nana Dream Smoothie, the best-selling flavor in Koia’s newest and most successful line of innovations, for GoPuff customers nationwide. Paul has an investment and partnership with GoPuff and Koia is currently the top selling drink sold on the platform. This three-way partnership between Paul, Koia and GoPuff is an example of how celebrities and brands can work together to create meaningful change in the food and beverage industry.

The story goes on

Koia is fueling the consumer trend of shifting to healthier, low-sugar options and is well on its way to removing 4 million pounds of sugar from the category by 2021. Koia continues to see exponential growth in both sales and retail expansion, particularly 800% sales increase since 2017 and record sales in Q2 2021 above a $ 40 million Running speed. Koia is now available in over 16,000 stores from Whole Foods to Walmart and continues to expand nationally with key retail partners like 7-Eleven to maximize accessibility for consumers.

“My hope in investing in koia and other changemakers in the industry is that we will work together towards greater systemic culture change that will give underserved communities access and the opportunity to live better, healthier lives,” said Paul.

“We look forward to partnering with Chris Paul because he is an extraordinary person on and off the pitch who embodies the power of plant-based nutrition, “said Chris Hunter, Co-Founder and CEO of Koia. “We are aligned with Paul on a vision of the future where everyone has access to healthy food and look forward to working together to make that a reality.”

Koia and Paul look forward to a long-term partnership that includes other broad-based programs and initiatives to strengthen this shared mission.
