NEW IBERIA, La. Faculty and students at North Lewis Elementary School in New Iberia raised funds for diabetes research in honor of school secretary Karen Thomas, whose teenage son has type 1 diabetes.
According to an email from staff, students and faculties secretly organized a campaign to get them to wear blue jeans and donate $ 2 to JDRF, a nonprofit that funds type 1 diabetes research.
Staff announced that they raised a total of $ 781 for JDRF during the school’s Administrative Professional Day on Wednesday.
