After The Jacksonville Landing was demolished, at least part of the public parking space at Riverfront Plaza appears to be in the future of downtown Jacksonville.

Last week there was an all-day design festival where developers came up with possible ideas for the plot of land that once stood on the landing. The festival ended without a winner being announced, but three finalists were named. Finalists include Agency Landscape and Planning, Olin Partnership, and Perkins & Will.

David Bauerlein of the Florida Times Union covered the story and joined us to discuss the Riverfront Plaza proposals.

Bailey’s fitness

Bailey’s Health and Fitness Club has grown into a Jacksonville institution. It has now grown to 16 different locations across the city. The gym was founded by Don Bailey, to which his brothers then came Darryl and David Bailey. While 2020 was a challenge for every company, it was especially tough for Darryl through the loss of his brother and business partner Don.

Darryl Bailey, the chief operating officer of Bailey’s Health and Fitness joined us to talk about the gym’s success and overcoming losses.

Lupus Research

A new study from the University of Florida has revealed a potential new treatment for lupus. The study found that a peptide could be an innovative new treatment that could help those suffering from the autoimmune disease.

The study that used mice found that subjects who took the peptide had fewer symptoms of lupus. The next phase of research will investigate whether the treatment is safe in people, and then whether it could be effective in people struggling with lupus.

Joseph Larkin III, an associate professor at UF in the IFAS Microbiology and Cell Science Division and lead author on the study, joined us to speak about the study.

Sing Out Loud Festival

Sing Out Loud Festival returns to St. Augustine after going virtual in 2020. The festival line-up includes artists like TLC, Mayday Parade and Yola. The festival has over 100 different acts that are booked in different locations in September. The festival starts on September 10th and lasts until September 26th – which has led to September being called “The (unofficial) month of music”.

Ryan Hall, the marketing and advertising specialist of the Ponte Vedra concert hall, and the St. Augustine Amphitheater have joined us to discuss the festival.
