On Sunday, a seminar was held in a hotel in the capital with the title “Nutrition of the workforce: seminar to disseminate learning”, according to a press release.
The Department of Inspection for factories and operations organized the event with the support of the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, an international organization based in Switzerland.
Minister of State for Labor and Employment Monnujan Sufian attended as the main guest, while KM Abdus Salam, Secretary of the Parliamentary Secretariat, was present as a special guest.
M Nasir Uddin Ahmed, DIFE General Inspector, gave a welcoming address.
Chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment M Ehsan E-Elahi, Line Director of the National Food Service SM Mustafizur Rahman, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Bangladesh Anne Van Leeuwen, Director General of the Ministry of Labor Goutam Kumar, Additional Secretary of the Health Department for Health and Family Kazi Zebunnesa Begum, Country Director of GAIN-Bangladesh, Rudaba Khondker spoke.
Moniruzzaman Bipul, Portfolio Manager at GAIN Bangladesh, presented the keynote paper on Workforce Nutrition.
Syed Abul Hamid, professor at the Institute of Health Economics at Dhaka University, said in his speech that lunchtime meals will be provided for the RMG employees as part of the ‘Swapno’ project by GAIN, the nutritional status and the work ability of the workers will be improved.
Citing the project results, he said that “Pusti Bandhu” played an important role in disseminating knowledge about nutrition among workers.
In her address, Monnujan Sufian said that the current government, led by Sheikh Hasina, is prioritizing public health and nutrition issues in line with the steps taken by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to build Bangladesh as a developed country.
She stressed the proper implementation of the Prime Minister’s Vision 2021-41, which aims to eradicate extreme poverty and achieve Upper Middle-Income Country status by 2030 and High-Income Country status by 2041, with poverty non-existent.
The minister called on everyone involved in the production, processing, delivery and sale of food to deal with the issue of safe and nutritious food.
The seminar called for a “Workforce Alliance” to be formed, comprising government organizations, NGOs and private organizations from various sectors, in order to improve the health of workers.
