Yukon Kuskokwim Fitness Center plans to open 40% capacity on Monday May 2nd. The fitness center’s recreation areas are open to all residents, whether vaccinated or not, but the pool area is only open to those who have been fully vaccinated. The pool is one of the few areas of the fitness center that doesn’t wear masks.
YKFC announced that it will reopen to unvaccinated people as the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta has had a relatively stable COVID-19 case rate for two weeks with high vaccination rates. This downgrades the region from a “high” risk of widespread transmission to a “moderate” risk. Case transfer criteria are based on a formula developed by the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation. This formula is the result of a number of factors, such as the total fall rate and the number of people vaccinated.
