PITTSBURGH – The first Jump with Jill Digital Tour took place in 48 schools in Pennsylvania and Texas from April 26 to June 10, 2021. The pilot project was supported by the National Watermelon Promotion Board, the Texas Department of Agriculture, and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture in collaboration with the Hess Brothers Fruit Company.

Armed with catchy songs, upbeat dance moves, and a hip wardrobe, Jump with Jill, the world’s only rock and roll nutrition program, uses the same tools typically used for junk food sales and inactivity to empower kids to make healthy choices hold true. Jump with Jill is the brainchild of registered nutritionist and musician Jill Jayne, MS, RD, who specializes in making nutrition learning an engaging and fun educational experience.

Since its inception in 2008, over 1.3 million children have enjoyed Jump with Jills unparalleled rock and roll nutrition show. On the previous live tour model, students attended a school meeting to dance and sing behavioral songs that encourage kids to eat healthily and exercise. The touring cast of Jump with Jill brought in all of the technical production to turn spaces used for physical education into a performance venue for large, enthusiastic audiences. When that was no longer possible, the Jump with Jill team underwent an innovative pandemic pivot and used their video production and content creation skills to recreate the signature nutrition education show for the screen.

In spring 2021, an exclusive virtual portal welcomed 509 highly committed educators who spent 1,027 hours together with unlimited access over six weeks:

  • A 50 minute recording of Jump with Jill: THE MOVIE !;
  • A treasure trove for shorter follow-up content;
  • Lesson plans tailored to standards;
  • Emails with tips on how to incorporate messages into the classroom; and
  • And for schools in Pennsylvania, mailing physical materials to school contacts and an Apple party!

This effective pandemic program reached 23,059 students and was implemented mainly asynchronously in sports classes and individual classrooms. As expected, the movie! was the most used tool.
