New Delhi, Sep 12 (IANSlife) Bad eating habits can affect your mental and physical well-being and even affect fertility. If you want to get pregnant you need to follow a healthy lifestyle and make some changes in your diet. This can also increase your fertility and ovulation.

There is a relationship between diet and fertility. Diet, weight, smoking, and alcohol consumption can negatively impact fertility and lead to hormonal imbalance. Hence, it is imperative to improve your eating habits. This becomes more important if you are planning a pregnancy and want to improve fertility. It’s important to maintain an optimal weight and choose foods that are safe and supportive for your baby. So, they must contain folic acid, iron, protein, and other important nutrients.

Remember not to try fad diets that can deprive your body of the nutrients it needs during pregnancy. Know what to eat and what to delete:

• Low iron levels can lead to anemia. Proper iron levels can help these red blood cells deliver oxygen to the baby. Opt for dried beans, raisins, apricots, spinach, lentils, and peas. Choose foods like spinach, squash, tomatoes, and beetroot to reduce the chance of ovulation infertility.

• Eat high protein foods like tofu, paneer, and lentils. Omega-3 fatty acids can help you improve the quality of eggs. Is Your Caffeine Intake High? Beware! It can lead to subfertility or delayed conception.

• Folate (folic acid) is essential and reduces the likelihood of neural tube defects in newborns. You can get it from a variety of foods like green leafy vegetables, orange juice, legumes (beans, peas, lentils), and even nuts. If you decide to use a dietary supplement, do not take it without your doctor’s knowledge. Men can also take it to increase sperm count.

• Opting for sugary drinks like sodas and energy drinks can lead to low fertility. Don’t consume them regularly.

• Avoid eating processed foods and canned foods as it will take you longer to get pregnant. No pizza, pasta, cakes, pastries, fries, namkeens and desserts. Alcohol and smoking are definitely not recommended if you are looking to increase your fertility.

• Have fewer trans fats and more monounsaturated fats (from avocados and olive oil). Avoid highly processed carbohydrates and eat complex carbohydrates.

• Eat fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. A balanced diet is beneficial for good sperm production
