Debra Sexton’s fitness training is rooted in her gymnastic background.

Sexton, who participated in gymnastics at Seattle Pacific University, owns FIT4MOM Carmel, a franchise that offers fitness classes for mothers. The Carmel resident was trained by FIT4MOM for all prenatal and postnatal courses, as were her other six instructors. There are more than 2,600 franchises in the United States, but Sexton has the only one in Indiana. The first FIT4MOM started 20 years ago in San Diego.

Sexton opened their franchise in September 2019.

“It’s for mothers, whether they’re pregnant or about to have a baby,” says Sexton, mother of three children, ages 7-3. “We specialize in women’s bodies and all the changes that happen with children. We focus a large part of our business on the community by providing resources for mothers, friendships and all kinds of activities for the kids. We do the workouts with the children to show them that health care and exercise are important to us. “

The courses take place in Coxhall Gardens and Clay Terrace in Carmel. In winter they take place at Off the Wall Sports in Carmel. Prenatal classes are also held at the O’Child Children’s Boutique on Clay Terrace.

“We are best known for our stroller fitness classes,” said Sexton. “One is called the stroller step and the other stroller bar. You bring your baby and we incorporate lots of singing, blowing, and tickling, everything you can think of to keep a baby entertained while you also exercise. We also have a running club. “

There is a body-well session with a nutrition plan, an eight-week program offered four times a year.

Sexton said the stroller classes are the most famous and popular.

“Once a month we do Moms Night Out and do something fun,” Sexton said. “We go on excursions with children on days when we don’t have classes. We meet in the zoo, museum or park. We meet with local experts on various prenatal and postnatal topics and provide them with resources outside of fitness. We do community outreach projects. We donated a ton of supplies to Project Home Indy. The next one is the Indiana diaper bank. “
